It never ceases to amaze me how some days I can be so busy and yet get nothing done. Today was one of those for sure. Oversleeping along with another homeschool mom in need pretty much shot my morning. Doctor appointment in the afternoon took care of afternoon. I am trying to remember why in the world I didn't get school done with the little girls yesterday either. Oh yes that is right. I spent the day dealing with the issue of fighting to have my kids involved in public school activities. Tomorrow is story time and the little girls are so excited. I know I should probably stay home and do school and fifty million other things. But what the heck. I am so far behind…why not just get a little farther behind? Right?

For school today, Sophia had to write a sentence using the word scornfully. I know this sounds easy, but it kind of wasn't easy. We discussed it quite a bit and after a little bit we came up with being scared of a spider and talking scornfully about, in my words, hating the spider. So she goes to write her sentence and she is reading it out loud to me while writing. She says "She saw the spider and said scornfully, "I bad word spiders!" I was like "what???" And she repeated what she said. I asked her "bad word?" And then it hit me that I had said "hate spiders." In our house we don't use the word hate. It's just such a strong word and so generally with the littler kids I don't allow them to use it. But I used it and didn't even notice until she starting using "bad word" instead of hate. Well, what can I say? Lesson learned!
Today I took the kids to Phy-Ed with our HOPE homeschool group. We meet about once a week for an hour long PE. When we started PE, some of the moms would do activities with the kids and it was really great. They did such a great job and some of us moms got some extra time to visit. As time has gone on, we noticed that the kids really enjoyed just having free time to play like crazy! So it was decided that as long as everyone was playing nice and it was going well, that we would just let them enjoy the free time. If issues of fighting or boredom come up, we plan to take over and do an activity with them. But so far it has been a great experience for both the kids and the moms. The kids have actually been learning a lot through this free play time. You might be surprised how much they are learning; I think we were surprised when we discussed it today. Things such as taking turns on the toys, older children helping out the younger children, younger children learning from the older children, compromise, patience, being aware of those around them so as not to hurt anyone, and these are just a few that I remember. The bonus? The moms get just a little bit of time for some visiting! I am so thankful for this new group of awesome ladies and their awesome families!
